How to use RSS feeds?

I know how to use them....

right click on the rss image, and choosing "copy shortcut" and then pasting it to my yahoo or something else....

My question is that which sites provide services like my yahoo? is it just my yahoo which provides this service?

Tell me how to USE them?

How to use RSS feeds?
If you frequent Weblogs, you've seen the little XML icons inviting you to "syndicate this site", but what does that really mean? A long time ago, newspaper managers realized that if they could use articles and stories from other newspapers in their paper, they could garner more readers because they could cover a wider area than they could with just their own reporters. This is an example of how syndication can work in print.

Online, there are potentially millions of authors writing about millions of topics each day. It can be very difficult to keep track of without some type of automated system. And that's where RSS comes in. Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is an easy way for Web sites to share headlines and stories from other sites. Web surfers can use sophisticated news readers to surf these headlines using RSS aggregators.

A Brief History

RSS was first invented by Netscape, when they were trying to get into the portal business. They wanted an XML format (RSS .90) that would be easy for them to get news stories and information from other sites and have them automatically added to their site. They then came out with RSS .91 and dropped it when they decided to get out of the portal business.

UserLand Software picked up RSS .91 and continued to develop it, coming out with .92, .93, and .94. At the same time as UserLand, a non-commercial group picked up RSS and developed RSS 1.0 based on their interpretation of the original principles of RSS. They based RSS 1.0 on RDF and re-named it RDF Site Summary. UserLand was not happy with RSS 1.0, and continued development of their version of RSS (Really Simple Syndication), eventually releasing RSS 2.0.

Which One To Use - and Does It Matter?

For the purposes of this article, no it doesn't. If you were going to build your own aggregator or a program to read RSS feeds, you would care, but that's not the point of this article. For my purposes, I'm going to demonstrate RSS .91.

Here are the basics of RSS (no matter what the version) (view sample RSS -right click or click and hold to open in a new window):

It is XML. This means it must be well-formed, include a prolog and DTD, and all elements must be closed.

The first element in the document is the %26lt;rss%26gt; element. This includes a mandatory version attribute.

The next element is the %26lt;channel%26gt; element. This is the main container for all RSS data.

The %26lt;title%26gt; element is the title, either of the entire site (if it's at the top) or of the current item (if it's within an %26lt;item%26gt;).

The %26lt;link%26gt; element indicates the URL of the Web page that corresponds to the RSS feed, or if it's within an %26lt;item%26gt;, the URL to that item.

The %26lt;description%26gt; element describes the RSS feed or the item.

The %26lt;item%26gt; element is the meat of the feed. These are all the headlines (%26lt;title%26gt;), URLs (%26lt;link%26gt;) and descriptions that will be in your feed.

Using those basic elements, you can create an RSS feed of your site. But it could get very tedious to create that feed manually every time you update your site. The best way to create an RSS feed is to use a tool, such as a Weblog to create the headlines, links and descriptions for you automatically

What is behind RSS technology?

I am certified in XML, from that point wouldn't RSS (Really Simple Syndication) be a breeze?

A lot of people ask for this in job descriptions so it may be worth me doing an attempt at it?

What is behind RSS technology?
to my understanding you would simply make an xml page with the relevent dynamic data. That is it! Then an RSS reader will check your XML page to see if any of the fields have changed and report that back to the user who entered your URL into their RSS reader. The XML pages I have looked at (i never made one) look like very basic xml files. Look at the source on some RSS links you will figure it out fast. Also w3c schools has an allright section on it.
Reply:I've been writing RSS feeds since RSS was brand new!

The entire family is worth knowing (rss .90 -%26gt; atom 3). I woudn't hire a programmer who didn't know dozens of xml apps and formats!

Is there any way to import RSS Feeds in to Wordpress posts (Nb:Not in the Sidebar but in the main page post)
1. You have to have login to your Wordpress admin

2. Next go to Syndication and choose Syndication.

3. Then at the bottom you will see "add a new syndicate site" .

4. Enter in the new feed link. To get the link just go to the site that you want to get the feed link from, right click on the RSS logo and copy link location.

5. Then paste it in the add a "new syndicate site" box

6. Click Syndicate button.

7. WP will find the feed, add in the information about the site automatically.

Then go back up the top WP top menu bar and choose Syndication again.

2. Next choose Options.

3. Here you can set the options such as set "Check for New Posts" automatically and enter in value 1440 if you want it to check every 24 hours.

4. Then choose other options you want and save changes.

you cant link a web page to a rss feed but you can create a rss fed for a web page

Reply:Rss is a newsfeed. It is completely different from a webpage. You would have to create the Rss feeds in addition to your website. Go on Google to find out how to create Rss feeds.
Reply:RSS is not a way of linking websites, it's a way of categorizing updates, news posts, blog entries, etc. It's more of a way of keeping track of recent updates than a way of linking. Your Geocities is a regular website that doesn't need RSS (and doesn't support it either, because it doesn't make sense). Why don't you put a regular link?

How to get yahoo mail and hotmail as rss feed to check mail?

How to get yahoo mail and hotmail as rss feed to check mail?.

Like gmail, which has an atom rss feed, is there any way to get both hotmail and yahoo mail as rss feed? Thanx.

How to get yahoo mail and hotmail as rss feed to check mail?
nope. Yahoo mail and hotmail (the free versions) do not support pop access so there certainly wouldn't be an rss feed either. There is the option to create your own rss feed but you'd have to be logged into both services, either via some sort of code or using seperate windows/tabs. Easiest solution is to install and run a multiple service messenger like trillian and set it to check for email on all your ids.....not the same as an rss feed but works primarily the same.....the messenger would notify you when you get new mail and then you could click on it to go to the site to open that mail.

Reply:go to www.live.com theres some good help files on there about how to use rss feeds and put them into your own personal webpage. Basically an RSS feed is an XML document that can be read and formatted to your taste (or the taste of the website that is consuming the XML)
Reply:RSS is just that..."Really simple syndication" which basically means that you can 'syndicate' a stream of information quickly, simply, and extremely cheaply over the internet provided that someone has an RSS reader on the other end.

It's a great way to stay up-to-date with the news, movies, music, and most anything that you're interested in learning about. Yahoo offers many RSS feeds, in fact, you can even offer an RSS feed to your friends on your 360 page so that they can display your latest up-to-date postings in your 360 Blog.

RSS feed requires RSS reader.

RSS is (some what like email) in which you receive important subject line of news, information, etc from various source (i.e. more than 1 RSS feed) at one place. When you click on it, you can read that information in details. Usually torrent website (also other like news website etc) provide information of new release or comments on torrent in RSS feed.

Both latest web browser Internet explorer (v7) and Mozilla firefox has in-built RSS reader.

For eg let take http://www.rlslog.net/ site. At address bar where it is written http://www.rlslog.net/,

for mozilla firefox:-

there is orange box (with 2 semi circle and dot in it). Other time, it will be orange box with RSS written in it. Click on it. It will ask if you want to subscribe to it using "Live Bookmark". Tick the"always...." and press "subscribe now". Below the address bar, you can see "release log" icon which you can see subject lines for information on that website.

for internet explorer (v7):-

when you are at that site, you orange button highlight , press light arrow near it and select the feed.

Also utorrent doesn't have RSS reader so you cannot use it. On torrent client, Bitcomet is only client that has RSS reader with it. Try this one instead of internet explorer.

What is an RSS feed?

I see RSS everywhere, what does it mean?

What is an RSS feed?
RSS is an abbreviation of, amongst slight variations - Real Simple Syndication. Basically it's a news feed. If you have an RSS reader then you get news and updates directly delivered to you without having to go and look for updates. Have a look at the link below.
Reply:An RSS feed is a website bookmark that will update when the webmaster updates their site.
Reply:The above answers are correct. Additionaly, RSS is built with XML, a language that can be rendeded like HTML, but can be made however someone wants it to be (with some rules). RSS is a varaition of XML, formatted so readers can get the information. Information is formatted as items in RSS, and each one is dated. When your reader gets the feed, it checks to see if there are any items that it does not have, and it will alert you of what is new. This way, you can always get the new, up to date, interesting information instead of browsing for it. You can check 100's of feeds for updated content with the push of a button.

IE7 has feeds integrated right into it's browser.

Most CMS's also publish feeds automatically as web content is published, making new information via RSS come as quick as the web.
Reply:Really Simple Syndication

Imagine a news website - like Reuters. Instead of going there everyday to read the headlines, you can have the headlines stream to your RSS reader (a plugin for your browser, or a website that supports RSS feeds). Click on one and you can read the full story. The feed updates itself, so you never have to go back to Reuters website to see when there's new stories. You can usually customize these, so if you only wanted sports stories, you can have them stream right to you.

Check out www.netvibes.com

You can have hundreds of RSS feeds stream right onto 1 page

I'm looking for an rss feed or email service where I can subscribe by author so I get notified when they are releasing a new book.

I want an rss/email feed on many authors so I know when they are releasing new books.?
The easiest way is if your author has their own site. If so, see if a feed is available. I'm assuming you checked though in which case I would go to some site like www.sphere.com and do a query against the author's name. You can then subscribe to that feed. The Sphere tips page has an online demo showing some of this.

You could do a similar approach by finding RSS feeds that announce upcoming books. You could then subscribe to ones of those feeds and use a service like ZapTXT and filter the RSS feed for your author's name. They can create alerts based on certain trigger words.

RSS is a standard format for syndicating content over the Internet. The content can be anything! Often information contained in an RSS feed is syndicated on other sites which expands its reach.

Website visitors love RSS because they choose which feeds they wish to subscribe to, if at any point they are unhapy with the content contained in the RSS feed they simply unsubscribe and no longer receive notification of feed updates.

RSS is really a win, win for both subscribers and publishers.

If you have it on your phone it means you can get information real time as the feed updates.

google reader lets you read your rss feeds offline . its a new service.

take a look at it . you will prefer it to any desktop reader .

it also suggests some feeds for you that you will like .

it saves all records of your added feeds for ever . so you have a great archive. you can share top links that you read in a separate page.

it is erally better than any reader . never miss it .

Reply:RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication, or Rich Site Summary, or RDF Site Summary. It's basically a standard format for transferring data/news. Webmasters send data in XML format (similar to HTML) and users can use/decode this with the use of reader programs (e.g. Mozilla Thunderbird) to view the updated news/data.

Example can also be found at the bottom of the source link
Reply:RSS is a format for syndicating news and the content of news-like sites, including major news sites like Wired, news-oriented community sites like Slashdot, and personal weblogs. But it's not just for news. Pretty much anything that can be broken down into discrete items can be syndicated via RSS: the "recent changes" page of a wiki, a changelog of CVS checkins, even the revision history of a book. Once information about each item is in RSS format, an RSS-aware program can check the feed for changes and react to the changes in an appropriate way.

To make it simple, it is just a subscription. If a visitor of a site is interested with the subject matter or content of the site, they subscribe to it so if there are any new content they will be notified about it.

What's RSS? i found it in many websites and when i click it i get an XML code..?
RSS is a family of web feed formats. The initialism "RSS" is variously used to refer to the following standards:

Really Simple Syndication (RSS 2.0)

Rich Site Summary (RSS 0.91, RSS 1.0)

RDF Site Summary (RSS 0.9 and 1.0)

RSS formats are specified in XML (a generic specification for data formats). RSS delivers its information as an XML file called an "RSS feed", "webfeed", "RSS stream", or "RSS channel".

What can you do with it?

Put code in a web page (like Yahoo Home or MySpace or others) to get headlines that are clickable to get the whole story.

Reply:RSS is a simple XML-based system that allows users to subscribe to their favorite websites. Using RSS, a webmaster can put their content into a standardised format, which can be viewed and organised through a RSS-aware software.

A program known as a feed reader or aggregator can check a list of feeds on behalf of a user and display any updated articles that it finds. It is common to find web feeds on major websites and many smaller ones. Some websites let people choose between RSS or Atom formatted web feeds; others offer only RSS or only Atom.

RSS-aware programs are available for various operating systems. Client-side readers and aggregators are typically constructed as standalone programs or extensions to existing programs such as web browsers. Many browsers have integrated support for RSS feeds. There also are other applications that can convert a RSS feed into several usenet articles, viewable through the major newsreader software such as Mozilla Thunderbird or Forté Agent: an example of such applications are nntp//rss, a Java coded program, or RSS Feed Converter a script for the popular mail-newsserver Hamster.

Web-based feed readers and news aggregators such as YourLiveWire require no software installation and make the user's "feeds" available on any computer with Web access. Some aggregators combine existing web feeds into new feeds, e.g., taking all football related items from several sports feeds and providing a new football feed. There are also search engines for content published via web feeds like Feedster or Blogdigger.

On Web pages, web feeds (RSS or Atom) are typically linked with the word "Subscribe", an orange rectangle, a feed icon, or with the letters XML or RSS. Many news aggregators such as My Yahoo![1] publish subscription buttons for use on Web pages to simplify the process of adding news feeds.

What is RSS feed and its benefit?

all details related to RSS

What is RSS feed and its benefit?
A lightweight XML format for distributing news headlines and other content on the Web.

How does it work? A Web site can allow other sites to publish some of its content by creating an RSS document and registers the document with an RSS publisher. A web publisher can post a link to the rss feed so users can read the distributed content on his/her site. Syndicated contentcan can include news feeds, listings of events, stories, headlines, etc
Reply:From wikipedia:

RSS is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated digital content, such as blogs, news feeds or podcasts.

Users of RSS content use programs called feed "readers" or "aggregators": the user "subscribes" to a feed by supplying to their reader a link to the feed; the reader can then check the user's subscribed feeds to see if any of those feeds have new content since the last time it checked, and if so, retrieve that content and present it to the user.

Reply:Really Simple Syndication--using a news aggregator (one of which is built into some newer Web browsers) you can actually have news sent to you about subjects that interest you most. Have a favorite sports team? RSS will send you the latest news as it is released. Have a blog you like to read? RSS allows you to have the latest blog entry sent to you as soon as the blogger posts it. I use it all the time and love it. My aggregator sits on my desktop and very inconspicuously runs all the time and pops up (not in an annoying way) when news comes out.

What is RSS?

Recently i've been seeing RSS on some of sites. What are the use of these. How does it work?

What is RSS?
RSS - Rich Site Summary / Really Simple Syndication is a method to syndicate your site content. This is done by creating an XML document which summarizes specific site content such as news, blog posts or comments and forum threads.

---

RSS is an abbreviation for: * RSS, a group of XML based web-content distribution and republication (Web syndication) formats primarily used by news sites and weblogs (blogs).** the Rich Site Summary is also known as RSS 0.9x (although many weblog feeds are full-text, not summaries)** the RDF Site Summary is based on Netscape's short-lived RSS 0.90, which used the W3C Resource Description Framework Standard; this is also known as RSS 1.x** the Really Simple Syndication is also known as RSS 2.

Really Simple Syndication.

If you download an RSS feed, it will tell you whenever something changes on the website you got it from. This way, you don't have to keep loading the site waiting for something new.
Reply:RSS is a standard format for syndicating content on the Internet.

In order to get a better understanding of how RSS works download an RSS reader or use a web aggregator and subscribe to an RSS feed (they are usually indicated by a small orange icon).

RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication". It is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines or podcasts.

An RSS document, which is called a "feed," "web feed," or "channel," contains either a summary of content from an associated web site or the full text.

RSS makes it possible for people to keep up with their favorite web sites in an automated manner that's easier than checking them manually.

Reply:RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a format used to organize content into a feed. RSS is often used in websites that are frequently/regularly updated (i.e. news websites). Websites that create RSS feeds allow you to view all the latest updates to their website in an organized list.

One of the best ways to understand what RSS is, is to try it out by subscribing to a RSS feed (e.g. http://www.yahoo.com/rss ).

RSS feed readers can be used to automatically gather the latest updates from all your favorite websites (the website must offer RSS for this to work). Note: Most web browsers (such as Internet Explorer 7) has built-in feed readers that allow you to subscribe to RSS feeds that interest you.

Reply:We've seen Usenet spam, email spam, search engine spam, IM spam, and Weblog comment spam -- how long will it take before we see RSS spam?

RSS feeds seem to be the breakout technology for the year. With more users turning to them for driving traffic to their site, it’s no wonder that a trail of RSS feed spam is following in the wake. A careful editing of your RSS feed could make the difference between being classified as genuine content or RSS spam.

RSS search engines are just beginning to pick up steam. As more RSS feeds become searchable, the number of visitors will increase and spam is sure to follow. It is an unfortunate side effect of free communication. While RSS users can typically unsubscribe to feeds they deem as spam, browsing with keywords in an RSS search engine is where the problem arises.

RSS spam largely consists of three main types most often found in the RSS search engines. The first type is keyword stuffing.

Keyword stuffing involves filling each RSS feed article with high-value keywords for a specific topic. The articles are not intended for human visitors, but instead for search engine robots to direct traffic to a target web site. This RSS spam technique is nothing more than an adaptation of the typical keyword-stuffed web page, often banned by major search engines.

The second type involves RSS feed link farms. These RSS articles often contain very little content, if any, other than a simple keyword. Their main attraction is the feed title. Clicking the feed title takes the user to a blog containing tens or hundreds of other blogs and RSS feeds, each directing to more links within the farm. The goal of this type of RSS spam is to trick the user into clicking advertisements or directing them to a product web site.

The third type is the creation of fake RSS feeds. These appear as legitimate, but often duplicated, article content. Whether they provide value or not is certainly debatable. These feeds are usually created in mass, using automated scripts, and appear similar in nature to the link farms. By attracting the users to seemingly valuable content, they hope to gain advertisement clicks or product web site traffic.

Your RSS feed might happen to fall into one of these three categories. While you may currently be experiencing increased traffic from the RSS search engines, these directories are working on filtering out the RSS spam techniques. However, you can still take advantage of RSS feeds and their power by following an RSS-friendly guideline.

Refrain from using automated scripts to create online content used by your RSS feeds. Instead, write your own original thoughts, product descriptions, and reviews. It takes a little more time, but the search engines will value this content much more highly, your visitors will appreciate the unique content, and the subscription count to your RSS feed will grow. It is also important to keep your feed updated with changing content as opposed to using a static feed, which remains the same. Search engines value dynamic feeds and will likely rank you higher as a result.

What's the point of RSS feeds and myYahoo! when they don't update quickly?

I set up RSS feeds from my favourite websites and blogs on myYahoo! page but it takes 24 - 48 hours to update. This means i still have to go to the original website to find the updated material - which basically defies the whole point of a RSS newsreader / aggregator.

Are there any better aggregators that update more quickly? Or is it more likely to be a problem with the websites themselves not 'pinging' reguarly? (I doubt this because even BBC news headlines and other big websites do not show up as updated on myYahoo! page).

...and yes i've tried clicking refresh!

Thanks, any ideas appreciated.

What's the point of RSS feeds and myYahoo! when they don't update quickly?

Reply:RSS is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated digital content, such as blogs, news feeds or podcasts.

Users of RSS content use software programs called "feed readers" or "feed aggregators". The user subscribes to a feed by entering a link to the feed into the reader program. The reader can then check the user's subscribed feeds to see if any of those feeds have new content since the last time it checked, and if so, retrieve that content and present it to the user.

RSS-aware programs called news aggregators are popular in the weblogging community. Many weblogs make content available in RSS. A news aggregator can help you keep up with all your favorite weblogs by checking their RSS feeds and displaying new items from each of them.

A brief history

But coders beware. The name "RSS" is an umbrella term for a format that spans several different versions of at least two different (but parallel) formats. The original RSS, version 0.90, was designed by Netscape as a format for building portals of headlines to mainstream news sites. It was deemed overly complex for its goals; a simpler version, 0.91, was proposed and subsequently dropped when Netscape lost interest in the portal-making business. But 0.91 was picked up by another vendor, UserLand Software, which intended to use it as the basis of its weblogging products and other web-based writing software.

In the meantime, a third, non-commercial group split off and designed a new format based on what they perceived as the original guiding principles of RSS 0.90 (before it got simplified into 0.91). This format, which is based on RDF, is called RSS 1.0. But UserLand was not involved in designing this new format, and, as an advocate of simplifying 0.90, it was not happy when RSS 1.0 was announced. Instead of accepting RSS 1.0, UserLand continued to evolve the 0.9x branch, through versions 0.92, 0.93, 0.94, and finally 2.0.

What a mess.

So which one do I use?

That's 7 -- count 'em, 7! -- different formats, all called "RSS". As a coder of RSS-aware programs, you'll need to be liberal enough to handle all the variations. But as a content producer who wants to make your content available via syndication, which format should you choose?

What is rss?

Can someone explain to me exactly what RSS is, I just don't get it....

What is rss?
RSS is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated digital content, such as blogs, news feeds or podcasts.

Users of RSS content use programs called feed 'readers' or 'aggregators': the user 'subscribes' to a feed by supplying to their reader a link to the feed; the reader can then check the user's subscribed feeds to see if any of those feeds have new content since the last time it checked, and if so, retrieve that content and present it to the user.
Reply:RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. Basically, if you sign up for it, it will notify you when a website has updated it's content. That way you don't have to waste time checking back all the time.
Reply:Simply put, they are news feeds that you read in an RSS viewer/browser. You can subscribe to them, like you would a newspaper.
Reply:RSS is an XML-based format (using the Resource Description Framework (RDF) - a language for representing information about resources in the World Wide Web) that allows the syndication of lists of hyperlinks, along with other information, or metadata, that helps viewers decide whether they want to follow the link. RSS allows a person's computer to fetch and understand the information, so that all of the lists that person is interested in can be tracked and personalized for them. ...

Wot dose RSS mean????
Really Simple Syndication

RSS is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines or podcasts. An RSS document, which is called a "feed," "web feed," or "channel," contains either a summary of content from an associated web site or the full text. RSS makes it possible for people to keep up with their favorite web sites in an automated manner that's easier than checking them manually.

When I follow Yahoo's instructions on how to ping their server to update my RSS feed--in other words, entering

http://api.my.yahoo.com/rss/ping?u=http:...

all I get is a message "Refresh failed. Feed not found."

A similar question was asked before, but the so-called "best answer" contained plenty of blather about yahoo but no solution to the problem. Does anyone know how to fix it?

Yahoo's 'ping' to update RSS feeds doesn't work--what can I do?
your feed is being served as text/xml it should be served as application/rss+xml

it's because your server is serving it without knowing that it's really rss.

if you rename it, it will fly through. if it's not your site... tell the admins.

rss should be named something.rss or something.atom or have the host configured to send this xml as application/rss+xml

Pinging works, but not for you today! sorry!

Create an RSS feed cloud?
a feed cloud sounds heavenly, but cloud is not part of the common rss computerese.

To make a feed all you need is a a file (like an html page).

What is RSS??

I was looking at the tabs I posted on another question.. There was something call 'RSS' and I don't know what is that.

What is RSS??
It stands for "real simple syndication".. its like taking an orange and making concentrate, it takes a webpage and sucks the important articles or posts off it and turns them into links. If you have an RSS reader(everyone does now, I think it is part of explorer) you can read the headlines from your favorite news site or the title of a new post on your favorite blog without having to go there... the rss reader can tell when they are updated and will let you know. Instead of going to 15 different websites you get everything you need right on your desktop. It's great technology really.

What is RSS?

Is it a server, what is it? I keep seein RSS on certain sites. Explain please.

What is RSS?
RSS stands for either (1) Really Simple Syndication or

(2) Rich Site Summary, depending upon which person you cite.

RSS is a way to provide information that can be read in a newsreader or syndicated (republished) on other websites.

It is not a server, it is a file format. Most RSS files are stored as XML (eXtensible Meta Language) files. This is a structured format that is easily read and published by a number of newsreaders and websites.

You can subscribe to a news feed (RSS or Atom file) using any of a number of newsreaders or websites. It is easy to subscribe to a news feed at your My Yahoo! page or other sites such as bloglines.com.

Almost all blogs create one or more RSS feeds (files) automatically. Yahoo! news groups create RSS feeds when messages are posted. Some forums create RSS files. Most of the major news organizations create them in a variety of categories.

So, how are these files shown on a website?

It takes special programming to reproduce an RSS feed on a site.

This was rather difficult two or three years ago; now it really is simple.

One easy, and free, way is to use Feedburner.com. Simply feed your RSS file to their system and you can use their BuzzBoost code to publish either the headlines or headlines and text of the articles in the feed on any website where you can paste javascript code.

All the best,

JD

How do I add an rss feed to my website?

Please note that I am not looking for an aggregator, a reader or a means to display my rss feeds on other sites. I'm specifically asking about how to display an rss feed from another site on my existing website.

How do I add an rss feed to my website?
It sounds like you want to display an RSS feed within your HTML website. The easiest/best way to do this is to use RSS2HTML a free PHP script. This means that you can retain the complete control of the HTML layout (using templates) and make it match your existing design. Additionally using PHP rather than JavaScript will mean that search engine spiders can "spider" the contents of the RSS feeds.

Additional details and a free rss2html download is available at: http://www.feedforall.com/more-php.htm

Additional information and other options for displaying RSS feeds can be found at: http://www.rss-specifications.com/displa...

Goodluck!
Reply:First you need to establish if the site provides RSS feed data. Then, copy the URL of the site, go to http://www.rss-info.com/en_rssinclude-si... , enter the URL into the box provided and adjust the settings( like color, size of lines etc of hoe you want the information displayed on your pages) and it generates the HTML code for you that you can then copy and paste into your website pages....Thats it.

How can I make my rss feed look cool?

Simply put, how can I make my rss feed look cool instead of that so simple plain text.

Maybe I should ask what is the best trick in the book for a cool looking rss feed?

I love source code, so I am good to go!

How can I make my rss feed look cool?
RSS, by definition, is Really Simple Syndication.

So if you do anything fancy with it, odds are it's going to look like a garbled mess on most RSS readers.

One option might be to embed something, kind of like a PodCast. But that would usually mean a second click to get the user to the fancy format.

Another route to take might be the way the Drupal CMS handles feeds. A Drupal article consists of a title, a teaser (the first paragraph or so, typically) and the rest of the content. RSS feeds are the title and teaser only, and when a user clicks, it takes them to the full-blown on-site article.
