I'm wondering about rss feeds - How do I get google, yahoo, to have my rss feeds available for others to see?

And Do I have to submit my rss to different sites to get them out there? How exactly does it all work?

I'm wondering about rss feeds - How do I get google, yahoo, to have my rss feeds available for others to see?
To get yahoo to include your rss feed, first, submit it by clicking submit your site at the bottom of search.yahoo.com. After you get there, click 'submit your media content for free'. Complete the process.

Then go to My Yahoo, click add content, and then click add rss by url (beside the search box). Enter your feed address and click add.

Then, if it's a blog, after you have made a post, or if it's some thing else, after you've refreshed the rss feed, ping yahoo. here's how:

Just enter this address into you browser, changing the last part to your feed's address.

http://api.my.yahoo.com/rss/ping?u=http:...

Just like this, my blog, website, and feed got into yahoo search.

Then a week later, google picked it up too, then another website, icerocket, also picked it up. Hope this helps. And visit http://www.thehtmlzone.blogspot.com

Can anyone recommend an RSS reader?

I need an RSS reader that is simple to use and understand. Also, where should it go? Do I have to put on the 'MyYahoo' page? I don't always go to Yahoo though - can't it be a general bookmark or something for my desktop? All I've learned about different stuff online and I haven't a clue about RSS but I know I need one! Help!

Can anyone recommend an RSS reader?
I use Newsgator, located at http://www.newsgator.com . It's a pretty good web based rss reader, which means your not tied down to a reader installed on your computer and you can used it anywhere. All you have to do is copy and paste the rss link into newsgator. Lot's of rss feeds also now have newsgator links to you can just click on and add the rss feed automatically.
Reply:I use this one. Simply add your feeds and then view them in the categories.
Reply:http://google.com/ig is a great web based feed reader!

This is a topic that's too complicated to be answered in this little space, so, i've given you the links below, to Tutorials that will teach you, step-by-step, how to do this.

What is meant by RSS feeds in blogs?
Try searching for an "RSS Directory" in the search engine.

YouTube has videos explaining RSS.

You can display and provide links for your Y!A questions, your starred questions, and the news that interests you on your Y!360 and MySpace pages with an RSS feed.

http://myspace.com/22449233

http://360.yahoo.com/profile-Kghdibk0bak...

The feed for my questions in MySpace updates faster than the one in my Y!360.

This website is for displaying RSS feeds in MySpace.

http://rssonmyspace.com

It provides links to the RSS source.

This website is for displaying RSS feeds in MySpace, Blogger, html, email, Google, Friendster, Hi5, and Xanga.

http://springwidgets.com/express/getFeed...

It displays images but does not provide links to the RSS source.

For Y!360:

Find your list of questions.

To the right of your most recent question you will see the RSS link.

Click on it with the right button then left click on copy shortcut (URL).

Or you can double click the RSS link and then copy the URL from your address bar.

In your Y!360 click "My Page."

http://360.yahoo.com/

Click "Add a Feed (via RSS)" or click "Edit Feeds."

Right click on one of the three boxes then left click on paste (the short cut - URL).

Then save.

You can also display information from:

Yahoo! News (for specific subjects like your state, country, or corporation)

http://news.yahoo.com/rss

MSN News

BBC News

Craigslist, Digg, Netflix, YouTube, and many periodicals,

and blogs from MySpace, Y!360 and other blog websites.

The RSS link for Y!360 blogs is in the orange box at the bottom of the blog page.
Reply:RSS stands for "really simple syndication" (no joke), although the original meaning changed

many websites and programs can recognize rss feeds, and what they do is that the website and program registers with that feed, and then the website or program displays the latest blog entry or whatever the rss feed is for
Reply:atom is one of the many feed formats. it was designed to replace rss 1 %26amp; 2.

there is less ambiguity in atom . but they get the same job done.

yahoo uses rss 2, and they do not validate http://feedvalidator.org/check?url=http:...
Reply:RSS is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines or podcasts. An RSS document, which is called a "feed," "web feed," or "channel," contains either a summary of content from an associated web site or the full text. RSS makes it possible for people to keep up with their favorite web sites in an automated manner that's easier than checking them manually.

The name Atom applies to a pair of related standards. The Atom Syndication Format is an XML language used for web feeds, while the Atom Publishing Protocol (APP is the acronym, but it is referred to as 'AtomPub' for short) is a simple HTTP-based protocol for creating and updating Web resources.

Web feeds allow software programs to check for updates published on a web site. To provide a web feed, a site owner may use specialized software (such as a content management system) that publishes a list (or "feed") of recent articles or content in a standardized, machine-readable format. The feed can then be downloaded by web sites that syndicate content from the feed, or by feed reader programs that allow Internet users to subscribe to feeds and view their content.

A feed contains entries, which may be headlines, full-text articles, excerpts, summaries, and/or links to content on a web site, along with various metadata.

The development of Atom was motivated by the existence of many incompatible versions of the RSS syndication format, all of which had shortcomings, and the poor interoperability of XML-RPC-based publishing protocols. The Atom syndication format was published as an IETF "proposed standard" in RFC 4287, and the Atom Publishing Protocol was published as RFC 5023.

RSS content can be read using software called an "RSS reader," "feed reader" or an "aggregator." The user subscribes to a feed by entering the feed's link into the reader or by clicking an RSS icon in a browser that initiates the subscription process. The reader checks the user's subscribed feeds regularly for new content, downloading any updates that it finds.

How to add local rss feeds?

can someone help me to add a rss feed to my email. I open the current ttachment are from all around the world. I want to add my local new and weather but it will not except the url address I put in the address box. Please help me understand how to add a rss feed from our local area? thank you

How to add local rss feeds?
doing a weather rss in a mail program is ... well .... cold.

Yahoo Mail Beta is not the best place to view feeds. You get better mileage using a freeware reader that just does feeds, and does them well.

Perhaps the beta will grow into a player... but not today.

How do I add HTTP authentication and SSL to RSS feed or password proctect RSS feed using PHP?

i want to restrict access to an RSS feed, such that clients will have to enter a username and password to see the feed. I would also like to see a script that will help me request for HTTP username and password eg when you click on https://secure3.silverorange.com/rsstest...

how do i achieve this result with php.

i have already written a script that converts html form input to RSS with php.

if you don't program in php but knows how to go about this please give a clear explanation of the concept.

thanks

How do I add HTTP authentication and SSL to RSS feed or password proctect RSS feed using PHP?
Well... you could simply use Apache .htaccess protection. That's when the browser pops up a box for you to enter the username and password.

Search for: apache .htaccess password (or similar)

Or.. on the PHP Script that's producing the RSS feed.. you can check to see if they're logged-in. If they are, then serve them the normal RSS.

If they're NOT logged in, display only one RSS item in the feed, and make it a message that they must log-in firts, and make it link to your login page. When they log in, show them how to reload their RSS feed, which should then serve them complete results?

There is no mechanism in RSS itself for authentication.
Reply:The example site you provided is using HTTP authentication. For your PHP RSS feed provider, you can require a GET argument in the URL or, with some more effort at the RSS feed reader side, POST variables. See the sources for details.

Why doesn't Yahoo 360 accept this RSS feed?

This is the RSS to my blog on MySpace:

http://blog.myspace.com/blog/rss.cfm?fri...

I can open this fine in a browser and it looks like a valid RSS feed, but Yahoo 360 rejects it. Why?

Why doesn't Yahoo 360 accept this RSS feed?
"looks like a valid RSS feed"

and you are what, the human XML parser?

http://feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=h...

doesn't validate. Most feedreaders will probably cope but Yahoo is apparently pickier.
Reply:The MySpace blog has enough to validate and also works with feedburner.

RSS feeds are broken. Hopefully, the Yahoo 360 will have a fix soon.
Reply:as the zebra said.. it doesn't validate.

http://feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=h...

What rejection message are you getting?

I can't add a Feed (via RSS) on Y!360, why?

I paste (one/all of) the following links in the URL box(es):

and click Save, but the page responds with message in red color: "Error: We were unable to fetch the feeds you requested. Please check the URLs and try again."

I have tried few times, but nothing change.

I have tried both Internet Explorer and Firefox, but nothing change as well.

???

I can't add a Feed (via RSS) on Y!360, why?
RSS feeds are sometimes unavailable and fail to load. Remember: Yahoo! 360° is in BETA version right now. They are currently making modifications to features that are not working properly. Just like how Yahoo! Answers recently took off their BETA tag, Yahoo! 360° is fixing problems that may occur, and when those are fixed, Yahoo! 360° will not experience problems anymore. So,, just be patient. Yahoo! 360° is almost finished with their modifications.
Reply:something is wrong with it, i havent used mine either it;s not just u having the problem so it's nothing your doing wrong, yahoo has to fix it, i suggest sending a msg to yahoo customer care.
Reply:The feeds in 360 are not working again. I don't even use mine since they RARELY work. It's just a beta glitch....it's nothing that you are doing that is causing this.

Is ISKCON, VHP and RSS built on Anglicized ideals?

that are not really Hindu concepts? Look at their websites and you can see what I mean... There was no Lord Krishna, there was only Kannan. VHP (www.vhp.org) is talking more about anti-Islam and Jehadi terrorism and about Brits and French! http://www.rss.org (RSS) talks about Dalits, Christian preachings, and Gurujis and False "Holy Men". So these websites are just being used as media to control the people by playing RELIGION card by the western countries. Right or wrong?

Is ISKCON, VHP and RSS built on Anglicized ideals?
You mention RSS website and VHP website, but you did not mention ISKCON website - www.krishna.com? But you included ISKCON conveniently...Why?

ISKCON is based totally on Vedic Scriptures Specially the Bhagavad Gita And Srimad Bhagavatam. Krishna is mentioned clearly as the Supreme Personality of Godhead and Rendering of Loving Devotional Service to God ...

RSS stands for Rastriya Swayamsevak Sang.. Their work is to unite Indians to help themselves... VHP stands for Vishwa Hindu Parisad. There work is to unite the International Hinduism Practitioners...

But ISKCON stands for International Society for Krishna Consciousness.. Their Work is to Unite all Living Entity in service of God or Krishna.

Bhagavad Gita Basic Teaching is that you are not this Body. You are Spirit Soul, part and parcel of God as his Children. How can we then distinguish between Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Indian, American or Pakistani or any other living entity? They are all Bodily Designations.

That is the difference between VHP, RSS or any other similar Groups and ISKCON..

These Group as on Material Platform – I am Indian, I am Hindu, I am Muslim, I am Dalit etc ..

ISKCON is on Spiritual Platform – I am Spirit Souls, Children of God.

Please read Vedic Literatures at http://www.krishna.com/main.php?id=33 .ISKCON is based on those Great Teachings.
Reply:Well to begin with all three organisations are working for Hinduism in totaly different ways. The ISKCON is a religious body which has no political affiliation and its totaly devoted to lord Krishna. The RSS is more of a Social organisation which works at grass root level and it has political leanings but at the same time it has worked hard socialy whether it was flood at Morbi or earth quake or any other natural calamity the RSS is performed much better then any other organisation, be it government or non government. VHP is a religious and political body which has its own views. The websites realy dont convey their resepective philosophies. If you realy want to know about it please buy their respective literature and some of it is available free.
Reply:U don't know anything about Hindu concepts.Y don't u all get a thorough knowledge about a topic b4 commenting on it.

Webmaster is absolutely right. Let me tell u Kannan is another name 4 Lord Krishna. That name is generally used in S. India.

U r talking as if other religions don't have websites. Give me a break! As far as they don't bomb other countries or behead others, u shouln't be bothered.
Reply:Very Right...religion is a personal thing, not VHPs fathers property..

What is difference between RSS and Atom and how do they work?

What is difference b/w RSS and Atom. I use Firefox and see an orange icon in address bar whenever i access some password protected site? does that mean every password protected site, like yahoo and gmail and hotmail, are RSS and Atom enabled?

What is difference between RSS and Atom and how do they work?
I do not know the difference between RSS and Atom, however, they are not security-related. They are types of news feeds. Clicking on the orange icon will allow you to subscribe to the feed from that particular page.

I believe Atom is a newer type of feed with more features than RSS, but I'm not sure.

hotel website. In what ways RSS can be used to generate more traffic/money.

I have collaboration with several local/national/international hotel chains, travel agents, airlnes, chamber of commerce to get business. Will it be the right approach to provide my hotel website's feed on to their site or feedreader. Basically i want to keep all of them informed about the latest updates/special offers on my site that i might have.

I want to implement RSS in my hotel website. In what ways RSS can be used to generate more traffic/money.Help!
Well, if you pin all your marketing hopes on RSS, then you are doing something wrong. RSS is just a way to notify people of something new happening with your property. Not a bad idea, it can be done, but you cannot control whether the users choose to add your feed to their own reader. You should do it regardless - as a cheap way to keep people updated, but it should not replace regular marketing efforts. I would say that relevant emails to your partners (travel agents, hotel chains, etc) are probably more relevant.

If you are thinking about incorporating deals from advertisers in this feed - then, yes, you could make some extra money, but the issue I see is how would you get people to sign up for your feed (traffic) which in turn would get advertisers to pay you for this traffic.

I'm so confused ..What is this RSS ??

every time i click on something named RSS i get a code similar to something like a HTML code .. I 've installed a RSS reader too ..but don't know wht to do with tht RSS code !?? HEEEELLLLLLPPPP !!

I'm so confused ..What is this RSS ??
Many RSS readers work like this to add new feeds; find a page with a feed you want and click the RSS symbol. When that page with the code opens, go to your address bar, highlight, right click and copy to clipboard.

Open your RSS reader and click the "add feed"

button. The feed's URL should automatically paste itself into to reader. Add the new feed to the category you like.

Enjoy!

%26lt; Copied and pasted from http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/360/pro... %26gt;

Follow these steps:

1. Go to your other blog or personal web site and look for a little orange button like this (sorry, I can't get it to paste the example here. Wrong format. Try following link above) This shows that you can syndicate your content via RSS. Usually, this clickable button links directly to an RSS file. (The page looks like raw code, but don't let it scare you!)

2. To add the RSS URL to your Yahoo! 360° Feeds module, right-click on the orange XML button to "Copy Shortcut." Or click on the "XML" button and use "Ctrl-C" on your keyboard to copy the URL found in the address bar of your browser.

3. Use "Ctrl-V" to paste the URL into the field above. When you're done, click the "Save" button below.

Aggregate RSS feeds into one and publish to Web?

I would like to combine three or four RSS feeds into one continuous feed, and display the resulting feed on a Web site. How do I do that?

Aggregate RSS feeds into one and publish to Web?
Yahoo! Pipes is probably the easiest way if you just want to generate a feed.

http://pipes.yahoo.com/

If you want to generate a webpage, then look at Rawdog or Planet.

Reply:You can use RSSmesh and RSS2HTML to display the merged RSS feed.

Both are PHP scripts that will allow you to easily manipulate the feed. Details at: http://www.feedforall.com/scripts-direct...

Is rss feeds free on phone?

is rss feeds for your phone free or do you have to pay???

Is rss feeds free on phone?
Unless a data plan is free through your carrier, or you already have an internet (aka. data) plan, to update the RSS feeds through the phone, would cost you money from your carrier.
Reply:The feeds are usually free, but the bandwidth used to download/update the feeds costs per every few kilobytes, which isn't bad because RSS feeds are usually small. Check with your carrier for data rates, or buy a plan.

Combine RSS feeds?

Are there any RSS feed aggregators that can combine multiple feeds into one 'page/list'. Something with filters, for example. I could have all images from every feed in one area, all title lines from a specific feed in another area. Even show feeds with specific keywords in the subject, or a linked article etc..

Basically a mashup report of all the feeds that is Highly customizable.

Combine RSS feeds?
in Firefox, I put my RSS feeds into folders in the toolbar folder.

this gives me a set of lists on my toolbar, just click and the contents drop down, move to the next folder those contents drop, scroll to a mutifeed they drop to the side. just click on your selection and your done.

this doesn't exactly do what you want, but it makes finding %26amp; accessing them easier.

Website rss feed reader help?

hi,

can i put a rss feed reader

so the user can jus scroll down the window instead of the whole page - like this thing im typeing in now

and if so...how can i put a window like this in my webpage

Website rss feed reader help?
You can do this using an iframe.

The code you would use is as follows:

%26lt;iframe src="page.html" width=450 height=100%26gt;

If you can see this, your browser can not read this iframe. However, you can view this content by visiting %26lt;a href="hello.html"%26gt;link%26lt;/a%26gt; .

%26lt;/iframe%26gt;

You would need to change "page.html" to a new HTML page you'll create containing the RSS feed reader code.

You can change the iframe dimensions (width and height) to suit your needs.

I hope this helps!

PhP RSS Error in CRON job?

I wrote and tested RSS phaser script in PhP. It worked fine.. But when i'm running it sung a CRON job, it return following error?

not well-formed (invalid token)

Why? How can i fix it?

PhP RSS Error in CRON job?
I'd have to guess it is a problem with the XML. Does your script read or generate the RSS file? If it is generating it, does it handle special characters or things like an '%26amp;' ?

If it is reading it from a source you don't control, maybe they have issues.

Eliminate PHP from the loop by opening the XML with your browser, it might give you a more detailed error message.

I've tried adding feeds to my 360 page but when I click the rss button on the page, like the weather page-it just opens a box asking where to add it to my favorites. How do I set up an RSS feed on my website?

I'm doing some research on XML and doing RSS as a subdivision. I found lots of info on setting up the syndication, but haven't seen anything on importing the RSS to a webpage, specifically www.ils.unc.edu/~whitdoug/final/. Do you need Javascript or PHP or something like that to do that? Is that a server-side thing? Does it depend on where the RSS is coming from originally (I would think not)?

How do I set up an RSS feed on my website?
Doug,

If you want to scrape other feeds you need them on your server first. (1 line command, in a cron job)

If they're your own, you can read your own rss feed in many different ways!

You can use AJAX to read your own feed, You can process it with php or perl or any other language the unc supports!

You are lucky because the normal rules for AJAX don't allow you to read a feed from another site, without the assistance of a server program.

If you're interested in AJAX, head on over to http://jquery.com for the coolest AJAX/dhtml library!

or use google's new api for rss mashup! http://code.google.com/apis/ajaxfeeds/

Media RSS?

how do I syndicate an image for Yahoo search using media RSS?

Media RSS?
If you use a Yahoo 360 or MSN Spaces blog, there is a means to have these distributed via RSS.

Go to my Yahoo blog http://360.yahoo.com/ki_te_moana

When you get there, click on the blog and go to the end.

You will see the RSS icon there, also another one that lets you put an RSS feed into My Yahoo, a news and RSS feed aggregator which your can tailor according to your preferences. My blog also has RSS feeds from WorldPress.org.

Here is the url for RSS feed from my MSN Spaces blog:

http://spaces.msn.com/up-escalator/feed....

Once you get a similar RSS feed url for your blog, you can email this to other people. Or they can use the tool on MSN or Yahoo blog spaces to get it themselves.

Everyone who has something worthwhile to contribute is doing this. You can too.

That will help outweigh the garbage out there.

Display RSS feed on HTML page?

What's the best way to incorporate an RSS feed into a custom HTML page?

P.S.: Not looking for answers like Bloglines. I know HTML and want to pull the feeds into my own web page and display as one combined feed. Thanks!

Display RSS feed on HTML page?
RSS feeds are basically XML data on your web site.

There are various standards floating around.

If you know how to format the XML templated pages, you can essentially publish this data to a folder on your web site.

I have done this myself in the past, but it is laborious to do by hand - especially because RSS feeds get updated regularly with new content.

What you may be looking for is RSS Editor/Publishing tools.

Below are a few resources to give you some ideas:
Reply:It sounds like you want to display an RSS feed within your HTML website. The easiest/best way to do this is to use RSS2HTML a free PHP script. This means that you can retain the complete control of the HTML layout (using templates) and make it match your existing design. Additionally using PHP rather than JavaScript will mean that search engine spiders can "spider" the contents of the RSS feeds.

Additional details and a free rss2html download is available at: http://www.feedforall.com/more-php.htm

Additional information and other options for displaying RSS feeds can be found at: http://www.rss-specifications.com/displa...

Goodluck!

If you want to read it on your PDA I would suggest you check out AvantGo.

Its a free service which plants a small program on your PDA and another on your computer. You can choose via the website which feeds you want or even make your own up.

The websites are automatically compressed and reformatted to suit a PDA screen. The content is refreshed every time you sync, or if you have a wireless PDA and a wireless router you can refresh without even turning your computer on.

If I remember right the basic free account comes with 2MB which doesn't sound like much but remember we're talking about PDA's. You could probably fit 10 -15 'channels' into that providing you're not trying to download the entire BBC or CNN website :-)

PHP RSS Feeds?

I want to show RSS feeds on my PHP site. How would I take an XML file and parse it to display no my site? Thanks.

PHP RSS Feeds?
Use RSS2HTML http://www.feedforall.com/more-php.htm it is a free PHP script that will display the RSS feed as an HTML web page.

You can use templates to control the appearance of the feed being displayed. This allows it to match your existing webpage look.
Reply:Something like this should work

%26lt;?php header('Content-type: application/xml', true);

echo '%26lt;?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1"?%26gt;'; ?%26gt;

Regarding RSS?

Can any one Explain me with How the RSS works?

Regarding RSS?
RSS - Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary:

The publisher creates content and publishes an RSS XML file. this file is called the feed, which is the container into which messages are sent. The XML file has a URL associated with it, just like any other Web page. The publisher can then post that URL on his or her Web site.

The recipient who wants to receive the feed adds that URL into a program called a reader. A reader is just a program located either on the Web or on the recipient's desktop (many RSS readers are add-ons to Microsoft Outlook) that can read and interpret RSS XML files. There are more than 1,000 readers available, most of them free. RSS is also built into the open-source Web browser Firefox, the Apple Macintosh OSX operating system, and the Web portals AOL, Yahoo!, Google and MSN. Plus, Microsoft is building RSS into the Internet Explorer browser and incorporating it into the next generation of its Windows operating system. As of January 2005, six million U.S. Internet users were using RSS readers, according to the ongoing Pew Internet %26amp; American Life Project.

Readers are not proprietary. Any reader can be used with any feed, and a reader can keep track of any number of feeds simultaneously. Two examples of common feed readers are My Yahoo! and NewsGator. The process for subscribing to a feed varies from reader to reader, but usually is a matter of only a couple of clicks.

When the publisher wants to send a message to the recipient, he or she simply adds entries to the XML file. Messages have three parts: a title, a summary and a message body. The title and the summary are added directly to the XML file, along with an entry date. The message body is an HTML file that is referenced in the entry.

The function of the reader is to make "virtual visits" to the specified XML Web page at specific intervals (usually once an hour) and check for updates. When the reader finds updates, it makes them available to the recipient. The form in which the message is delivered depends on the reader. In a Web-based reader, it might appear as an entry under the feed banner (see My Yahoo! below). In an Outlook plug-in reader, it would look like an email message.
Reply:RSS is a protocol, an application of XML, that provides an open method of syndicating and aggregating Web content. Using RSS files, you can create a data feed that supplies headlines, links, and article summaries from your Web site. Users can have constantly updated content from web sites delivered to them via a news aggregator, a piece of software specifically tailored to receive these types of feeds

If you click on the button you can subscribe to the feed in various ways, including by dragging the URL of the RSS feed into your news reader or by cutting and pasting the same URL into a new feed in your news reader.

Most sites that offer RSS feeds use a similar orange RSS button, but some may just have a normal web link to the feed.

Some browsers, including Firefox, Opera and Safari, automatically check for RSS feeds for you when you visit a website, and display an icon when they find one. This can make subscribing to RSS feeds much easier. For more details on these, please check their websites

My RSS Feeds will not update, how do I fix this?
That's strange. They work fine on mine.

It could have something to do with the site itself. Maybe there not posting anything new. Or maybe their site is experiencing problems. It's not necessarily an IE7 only problem.

So maybe you should reinstall it. It might work.

I'm an avid IE7 user, and I use IE7 Pro. It includes a whole lot of feature IE7 doesn't have, and it really improves the experience. The download is legit. and free. I use it all the time, and I recommend it to all IE7 users to experience a great browsing experience : http://ie7pro.com

Xml showing html code instead of rss file for some users?

I have an rss feed that for some users shows the xml file with the rss feed fine but when others go to this xml file they see the html code. I would guess there is a setting for those who can't see the rss in the correct format. Is anyone familiar with this issue? I don't know what setting to ask those who can't get the feed to change.

Xml showing html code instead of rss file for some users?
1 some of your users don't have feed readers configured in their browsers.

or

2 Your feed is not valid.

So, you should validate the feed. and find out which browsers the users with problems are using.

http://feedvalidator.org/

UPDATE feeds have to be served correctly. When you go to validate you'll get lots of messages telling you why the feed is wrong. IE feed.html will be served as an html file, yet the same file named feed.rss will be served correctly (assuming your server is configured correctly)

What is the difference in XML & RSS?

I have yet to be able to get an RSS feed on my 360. I don't understand the difference in the XML %26amp; the RSS and the directions on the RSS feed of my 360 do not make sense to me.

What is the difference in XML %26amp; RSS?
XML is the standard (mark-up) language that all web development is gearing towards. RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is just one small part of what XML can do, but some people describe their RSS feeds as XML because that is what it is best known for at this point.

If you click the RSS link on your 360 blog, it will not work unless you have an RSS reader installed. If you are using a Mozilla browswer, you can download an extension for your browswer to be able to read and keep track of RSS files for you. Otherwise, do a web search for RSS programs or websites that will send you an email notification whenever there is an update to the RSS feed. The Yahoo! FAQ page for RSS has more information if you're still confused.

I have a blog through blogger and was wondering how can I find my rss feed(site feed url) and if I even have one. Thanks, cheers!

My rss feed?

This is the URL for the RSS feed of your blog.

I found the link for it in the orange box under "Chris's Blog Feed" in the right columb.

Try searching for an "RSS Directory" in the search engine.

YouTube has videos explaining RSS.

You can display and provide links for your Y!A questions, your starred questions, and the news that interests you on your Y!360 and MySpace pages with an RSS feed.

Then save.

Reply:The easiest way to create an RSS feed is to use software. The software I would recommend is FeedForAll (there is a Windows and a Mac version). Their is a built in wizard that will walk you through the process of creating a feed.

You can download an evaluation version from http://www.feedforall.com

Best of luck!

Trying to Pull Yahoo Finance Headlines RSS for More than 20 Articles?

I am pulling company news article/ headline RSS feeds from Yahoo Finance. The problem is, the feed only provides the last 20 news articles for that company. I want to pull the last 100 news articles. Or the last 500 news articles for that company. How can I customize the RSS feed to go back and pull them? Or is this a Yahoo setting that I cannot change?

I'm really having trouble adding a 3rd RSS Feed to my blog. I'm trying to add my NetFlix queue feed, I followed the directions, but I keep getting an url error message. But one of my friends has their NetFlix queue on their page, why do I keep getting an error message?

I'd like an answer please.

Since your friend has it working it would make the most sense to ask them. There could be any number of reasons why it doesn't work. With your friend helping you, it will be much easier to eliminate possible causes and figure out what the problem really is.

Reply:yeah, havent heard of that...
Reply:This is not the most detailed or complete explanation to serve RSS feeds on a web page but here it is, you need to create an XML file that conforms to XML schema that corresponds to RSS version you want to use. This XML file will describes the content you want published in the feed. Remember that XML files require that they be well formed and valid. Meaning that it must fully conform to the RSS schema that you choose and it must not have any syntax mistakes.

You then place that file on your web server having the server serve the XML file with the MIME type application\xml+rss. The RSS link that you will give to your users is the direct link to the XML file on the server. This is the link that RSS readers will use to access the XML file and read the feed.

My RSS feeds in Yahoo Mail are no updating. Why?

I have set up RSS feeds in 'My Yahoo' and these are automatically set up in Yahoo Mail Beta. However, the feeds are not up to date in Yahoo Mail but they are in My Yahoo and the feed URL is exactly the same. Does anyone know why this is happening? Thanks.

My RSS feeds in Yahoo Mail are no updating. Why?
If the RSS feeds are still showing but are old, then try refreshing the page. Other than that I have no idea. Send a message to Yahoo! Customer Service. It's still a beta product so they need the feedback.

"Add RSS" feature of Yahoo! Mail Beta isn't working properly.?

I'm trying to add an RSS feed to my Yahoo! Mail reader, but the dialog box that comes up does not have the URL field at the bottom as noted on the help page. Am I missing something?

"Add RSS" feature of Yahoo! Mail Beta isn't working properly.?
If the field is missing, it is likely that the entire page didn't load properly. Press F5 to reload/refresh the page. You might have to try it a few times before it finally works.

Another possibility is that it is a glitch in the system. Yahoo has got a lot of glitches these days. Hopefully, they will resolve them soon.

Add to my RSS reader – Add to my Website clutter!

RSS feeds are gaining extreme popularity and are unstoppably close to appealing to the mass market. They are everywhere we look and undoubtedly synonymous with “Web 2.0”; they are an older technology who clearly represents the future. However, feeds are still an untamed beast let loose in the wilds of the internet with little control or attention to visual design and user-experience. We have a feed, but it is as though we don’t know what to do with it. This is my second post picking on the design of feeds; today I am going to focus on the “add to my reader” phenomenon that is cluttering websites more-and-more.

I’ve used Fadtastic as my example of choice. I thought it fitting since they playfully call attention to web design “fads” – often in a rhetorically negative light. They, like many other sites have opted for the lengthy and unnecessary list of feed readers for which their users can subscribe from. Fadtastic is by far not the worse culprit of this painful visual experience. Scarlet Blaze is an example of more syndication options than I know what to do with – than anyone should know what do with. Just do a Google search for “myaol.gif” and you are bound to come across an abundance of “great” examples.

So, what is my problem with this abundance of “subscribe to” lists? Well, simply it is the adding of clutter of your website which I am sure already has half-a-dozen elements fighting for attention. How important or useful are these colorful little buttons to begin with? Lets think about this logically. Only first-time visitors are really getting any benefit; most of your returning visitors most likely already subscribe to your feed or have made that conscious decision not too (for whatever reason). Sure, I buy the argument that helping the first time visitor subscribe is crucial for conversation rates (turning a first-timer into a long-timer) – but at what cost and is your method even doing that? If your user is using a feed reader you can make the safe assumption that they are reasonably technologically literate. Your user will find your feed and subscribe if they want too; thrusting a variety of options to which they need to filter through isn’t going to help your cause. I should mention that Firefox 2.0 and Internet Explorer 7 are both making this even easier for the common user!

A lot of complaints should warrant some subjective and opinionated solution, don’t you think? Of course! I say you keep offering your long list of links, just keep creativity and innovation top-of-mind in keeping your visual design and user-experience in tact. Everyone (who uses feeds) has come to recognize the infamous feed icon – use that little 20x20 icon to its maximum potential; exploit it and make it an amazingly powerful visual cue. What I’ve done is add a hover state to my “Add to” icon (well, first thing I did was make it an add-to icon instead of just a simple feed icon). On hover the user is then and only then presented with a list of “add to my” buttons for quick and easy subscription appeasement (I’ve include only the popular ones I’ve deemed appropriate for myself). However, the key to this solution is limiting that long list of “add to” to a hover action – presenting options when they are wanted (providing the user an experience as opposed to forcing one). It is a simple, subtle and obvious location for multiple actions directly related to feeds. On click is where the real beauty of XML really comes into play. As described in a previous post, “Well Designed RSS feeds – Would all web designers please stand up?”, I’ve highlighted the power of XSLT by completely branding and customizing my feed’s XML page for the optimum user-experience. Again, adding the list of “add to” in a nice and subtle location as well as presenting the user with a preview and explanation of the feed.

My solution isn’t “the solution” by any means; just a solution I’ve found effective for my site and those I’ve been currently working on. I feel as though a lot of design decisions being made recently around new “web 2.0” type technologies are being made as rapidly as their deployment. We need to invoke our creative and innovative minds to truly present the best visual decision for the ideal user-experience.
