Honestly, can someone give me a simple explanation about how it's useful? Does it notify you when the blog poster has new content? Wouldn't it be easier to just join a mailing list? Is there content which I am missing by using "just" the web and not RSS? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
What is RSS? What does it do?
RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication, what it does is allow anyone to be able to offer content to anyone using the easiest of tools.
Most browsers support RSS feeds, so if you come across something you think you want to keep track of, just subscribe to the feed and it will update. Mailing lists went the way of the dodo bird because they still need someone to sit there and send the mail, an RSS feed is all browser handled.
