How do I bookmark an RSS feed without the orange address bar icon?

I hope that makes a little sense. Let me try to explain. First of all, I use Firefox, and when I go to an RSS enabled website, I generally see an orange icon in the corner of the address bar. I click this, and the browser prompts me to Add Live Bookmark.

However, some sites don't give me the orange icon. They have a link to RSS feed, and when I click on it, I just get a bunch of XML code. When I bookmark it, it just takes me to the same XML code. Is that because their website is not configured correctly, or am I doing something wrong?

Again, I hope you can make sense of this - of course when I want an example I can't find the page I was looking at! Thank you!

Try manually creating the Live Bookmark as follows:

If the site does not tell Firefox that it offers RSS feeds (with the orange icon), you can still manually create a live bookmark.

Usually, these site have links that say "RSS feed" or "Atom feed".

Right-click on the "RSS feed" or similar link and select Copy Link Location.

Next, open Firefox's Bookmarks Manager and select File -%26gt; New Live Bookmark.

Enter a name for the live Bookmark under "Name". Then, right-click into the "Feed Location" field and select Paste. Click on OK and you have manually created a new live bookmark.
Reply:THE LIVE BOOKMARKS ARE AN OPTION, BUT AREN´T NECESSARY. THERE ARE MANY WAYS TO SUSCRIBE TO AN RSS READER. I RECOMEND YOU SIGN UP GOOGLE READER (http://reader.google.com). I CAN EXPLAIN MORE TROUGHT YAHOO! MESSENGER. PLEASE, CONTACT ME. MY MESSENGER ID IS: hectorarturoazuz. Report It

Reply:IF YOU ONLY BOOKMARKS AND YOUR COMPUTER EXPLOTE, YOU LOST YOUR BOOKMARKS. THEN, WHEN YOU USE GOOGLE READER, YOUR BOOKMARKS ARE SAFE (AT LEAST IF YOUR COMPUTER IS DESTROYED.

Reply:Thanks for the advice! Actually, I already have links on my blog for the sites I read, so I won't lose everything if my computer crashes. I just like the convenience of having live bookmarks on my computer. Report It

Reply:So far, I haven't managed to get this to work directly. I don't know whether thus is an issue related to the type of feed, but at least for .rdf links it doesn't work.

What does work, however, is using sage (http://sage.mozdev.org/) which is a firefox extension to manage RSS feeds (which are about the same as live bookmarks). The panel also includes a find feeds button that lists all the feeds linked on that page, allowing you to quickly select the ones you want. It's kind of a work-around, but I hope its useful.
